To whom it may concern,

I am submitting to you this cover letter and resume as application for a position as a React front-end web developer. I have reviewed the job description and feel that I am capable of handling all required aspects of this position and will be able to quickly master any new skills needed.

I have been doing web development as a hobby and entrepreneurial endevour for over twenty years, accumulating approximately 20,000 hours of coding time in HTML, CSS, JS (ES6+), jQuery, C# ASP.NET, T-SQL and recently learned React and TypeScript.

I have a Master of Business Administration degree and a Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics degree which have given me many beneficial skills including the ability to understand, analyze, break-down and solve very complicated problems within systems and people. I am highly motivated, an incredibly quick learner, easy to work with, and I enjoy being challenged and seek out critical feedback to help me improve. On top of this I have a passion for optimisation and efficiency which I apply to all aspects of my work.

Twelve years ago I needed to step away from my career in project management and program development due to struggles in my personal life. I sought the assistance I needed and those struggles are no longer part of my life. The result of this process was me starting my own company that worked on developing entrepreneurial web projects full time as well as starting a photography business for some supplemental income. I am now ready to transition to web development as a full-time career.

I can appreciate that my experience and training may not be the traditional path web developers normally take but I have no doubt that if given the opportunity to demonstrate my abilities you will be more than impressed with what I bring to this position.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to being able to discuss my application with you further.

Sincerely,

Paul Carkner

Most projects were built using a C# ASP.NET MVC/Razor back-end framework and T-SQL/LINQ database interfaces which were deployed to the Azure Cloud. The front-end was typically plain HTML & CSS with a combination of Vanilla JS and jQuery. Both server-side and client-side API handlers were frequently written.
